SharePoint Server 2019: Hardware and Software Requirement

The following are minimum hardware and software requirements for web servers and application servers that belong to a three-tier farm with pilot, user acceptance test (UAT), or production deployment of SharePoint Server 2019 running all available services.

Hardware requirements

Processor 64 bit – 4 cores
RAM 16 GB
Hard drive 80 GB system drive

80 GB for second drive

If you are creating a development or evaluation environment, you can use 16 gigabytes (GB) of RAM for a single-server installation, including Microsoft SQL Server and SharePoint Server. However, 24 GB of RAM is recommended for a single-server installation of SharePoint 2019. Adding more memory than the minimum requirement will also result in better performance.

Software requirements

SharePoint Server 2019 supports drives that are formatted with the Resilient File System (ReFS). Web servers and application servers in a SharePoint 2016 farm have the following minimum software requirements.

Microsoft SQL Server 2017 RTM Standard or Enterprise Editions for Windows

OS Windows Server 2016 Standard or Datacenter (Desktop Experience)

The Microsoft SharePoint Products Preparation Tool can assist you in the installation of the software prerequisites for SharePoint Server. Ensure that you have an Internet connection because some prerequisites are installed from the Internet.

You can find the list of prerequisite required to install SharePoint Server 2019 on the installer media. Below is the SharePoint Server 2019 prerequisite installer list, installs the following software on target server in given order:

  • Web Server (IIS) Role
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 SP4 Native Client
  • Microsoft Sync Framework Runtime v1.0 SP1 (x64)
  • Windows Server AppFabric 1.1
  • Microsoft Identity Extensions
  • Microsoft Information Protection and Control Client 2.1
  • Microsoft WCF Data Services 5.6
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2
  • Cumulative Update Package 7 for Microsoft AppFabric 1.1 for Windows Server (KB 3092423)
  • Visual C++ Redistributable Package for Visual Studio 2012
  • Visual C++ Redistributable Package for Visual Studio 2017
