In my previous blog post I shared the boundaries table for SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business and Microsoft Lists. In this blog post I am highlighting key limitations for SharePoint Online and OneDrive which will help you on performing any specific task and if you know any further limits please share in comments so I can include those in this article.
- A tenant’s storage limit is 1 TB plus 10 GB Per license purchased (except Microsoft 365 F1 or F3, Office 365 F3 which allow only 1 TB)
- Maximum site collection size is 25 TB
- Max 2 Million site collections per organization
- Microsoft 365 has file path limit of 400 characters
- Break permission will not work if a document library or list having over 100,000 items/documents
- 2000 lists and libraries per site collection
- Max 2000 subsites per site collections
- Max 2 Million users per site collection (this include guest)
- Max 5000 SharePoint groups each site collection
- Max 5000 user per SharePoint group
- 50,000 Major and 511 Minor versions for documents in a Document library and OneDrive
- 100 GB Metadata limit per site collection
- 20000 document sync limit for OneDrive and SharePoint including 5000 items per Teams site
- Folder contain over 50000 documents (including sub folders) cannot be shared externally
- Files over 100 GB cannot be moved or copy in SharePoint and OneDrive
- Maximum 30000 files can be copied or moved from one location to other
- In SharePoint Document library, thumbnails are not generated for PDF/images sizing over 100 MB
